According to Quick Science and Technology on September 24, rumors have emerged recently that BMW has decided to lower the prices of certain models in the Chinese market. Some people believe that due to multiple factors such as recent sales fluctuations, market pressure, and intense market competition, BMW is returning to a "price war."
In response to these rumors, on September 24, a BMW China representative stated that competition in the Chinese automobile market will intensify further in 2024, with almost all brands facing similar challenges. However, BMW has not made any adjustments to its recommended retail prices recently. Authorized dealers are free to set their own retail prices based on market conditions, and the final transaction price is influenced by specific transaction circumstances.
It is understood that recently, BMW dealers in Beijing officially announced limited-time discounts for three models: the BMW iX1, i3, and iX3. Among them, the discounted price for the BMW iX1 starts at 188,800 yuan, the i3 starts at 208,800 yuan, and the iX3 starts at 251,800 yuan.
A significant factor behind these discounts is the severe decline in sales. Data shows that BMW sold only 34,800 vehicles in China in August, a 42% decrease from the same period last year!
In contrast, its long-time rival Mercedes-Benz sold 49,000 vehicles in August, while Audi sold 47,900. Both surpassed BMW in sales. Additionally, China's new energy vehicle startup Li Auto sold 48,000 vehicles in August, also outperforming BMW. If this trend continues, BMW may find itself left out of the competition entirely.
