After several months of preheating and promotion, the first model under NIO's sub-brand LeDao, the LeDao L60, was officially launched on September 20th, positioned as a mid-sized pure electric SUV.
Compared to the previously announced pre-sale price of 219,900 yuan, the final selling price range of the new vehicle is 206,900 to 255,900 yuan.
It can be said that the official price of the LeDao L60 after its official launch meets the expectations of most people. Some may argue that the starting price is not 149,900 yuan, isn't it?
That's right, you could also say the starting price is 149,900 yuan.
The ability to lower the price to such a low level is thanks to NIO's battery swap model. If you want to buy the LeDao L60 for 149,900 yuan, you're only purchasing the vehicle without the battery, which is known as the BaaS (Battery as a Service) battery leasing program.
With this purchase method, you have two options: rent a 60 kWh battery pack for 599 yuan per month or rent an 85 kWh battery pack for 899 yuan per month.
Now that we've covered the purchase policies, let's talk about the car itself.
Regarding the interior and exterior design of this car, consumers who follow the LeDao L60 are likely already familiar with it. Therefore, we won't delve too deeply into it here. The vehicle measures 4828/1930/1616 mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2950 mm.
Among its peers, the LeDao L60 boasts a notable advantage in wheelbase.
In terms of configuration, let's put it simply: the LeDao L60 offers high-end features right from the entry-level models. All models come standard with a 17.2-inch central control display and an 8-inch rear-seat touch screen, supporting 5G connectivity. The infotainment system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip, allowing voice control of front seat ventilation, heating, and massage functions, as well as voiceprint recognition.
In addition, features like a 13-inch HUD, heated and memory steering wheel, 50W wireless charging, heated and power-adjustable second-row seats, and privacy glass for the rear passengers are also standard across all models.
In terms of intelligent driver assistance, all models are equipped with binocular perception cameras and NVIDIA's 254 TOPS computing power chip. Functions such as traffic light recognition, lane change assistance, automated and remote parking, and remote summoning are available. However, NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) for city and highway driving is an optional extra.
Power-wise, the LeDao L60 offers both rear-wheel-drive single-motor and all-wheel-drive dual-motor versions. The single-motor version achieves a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds.
The 60 kWh battery pack uses LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry and offers a pure electric range of 555 km. The 85 kWh battery pack, featuring NCM (Nickel Cobalt Manganese) chemistry, extends the range to 730 km.
The dual-motor AWD version is also available in both LFP and NCM variants, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.6 seconds. The LFP variant retains the 60 kWh battery pack and offers a range of 532 km, while the NCM variant, with its 85 kWh battery pack, achieves a range of 700 km.
By launching the LeDao L60, NIO's intention is clear: to compete head-on with Tesla's Model Y.
Recently, NIO's Chairman Li Bin has openly stated that the LeDao L60 has seen an "explosion of orders" since its launch but declined to disclose specific sales figures.
Indeed, for NIO, a best-selling model is crucial to boost sales and instill confidence in investors and the market. However, while the LeDao L60 undoubtedly has an edge over the Tesla Model Y in terms of product capabilities and pricing, it is not a given that it will become a runaway success.
This is because, within this price range, the LeDao L60 faces stiff competition not only from the Tesla Model Y but also from the likes of the Xpeng G6, IM Motors IM L7, Haval Seal 07 EV, and BYD Song Plus EV.
In conclusion, our subjective assessment is that Li Bin's optimism about the future market prospects for the LeDao L60 may be a bit premature.
