Aion and Feifan, two similar brands, have embarked on their respective paths of confusion due to different choices.
In the broader category of new force sales rankings, Aion and Feifan find themselves at opposite ends of the spectrum. Despite sharing similar backgrounds, these two new energy vehicle brands have diverged onto different paths amidst market competition.
Meanwhile, Aion and Feifan share numerous similarities. For instance, both are absent from the meticulously curated weekly sales rankings. While Feifan, amidst its sluggishness, may refrain from expressing too many opinions, Aion appears somewhat不甘于现状.
When it comes to domestically successful pure electric vehicle brands, aside from BYD and Tesla, the next should be GAC Aion, a brand that exclusively sells pure electric models and has long led the sales charts over those relying on extended-range vehicles to boost their numbers.
Perhaps due to a lack of novelty, Aion has been excluded from certain rankings, even though the list includes numerous companies originating from local enterprises, similar to Aion.
It is noteworthy that amidst the continuous growth of new energy vehicle sales in 2024, Aion and Feifan have faced significant challenges. In June, Aion became one of the few new energy brands to experience a decline in sales, while Feifan retreated into the shadows after adjustments earlier in the year.
Carrying the aspirations of GAC and SAIC's rise in the new energy vehicle market, these two brands suddenly faltered in 2024, forming a stark contrast with the vigorous reforms undertaken by the three major state-owned enterprises.
Aion and Feifan: Losing Momentum
Looking back on the first half of this year, Aion's monthly deliveries consistently exceeded 20,000 units. According to official statistics, Aion's first-half deliveries totaled 125,988 units, a year-on-year decline of nearly 40%.
As for Feifan, the company has stopped releasing sales data officially. According to third-party statistics, Feifan's monthly sales have dropped to double digits, a significant decline from the 2,035 units sold in June last year.
Specifically, Aion's sales figures for this year are: January (24,947 units), February (16,676 units), March (32,530 units), April (28,113 units), May (40,073 units), and June (25,681 units).
Aion's sales were competitive with those of NIO and Wenjie, ranking among the top new force brands in the first five months of this year. It even surpassed these two brands in April and May, ranking first.
Surprisingly, Aion's sales plummeted significantly in June, bucking the overall trend of new energy vehicle sales. According to statistics, domestic new energy vehicle sales in June reached 1.049 million units, an increase of 30.1% year-on-year, while Aion's sales declined by 45.5% against this trend.
In terms of specific models, Aion currently offers four models, but only two, AION S and AION V, contribute significantly to sales, accounting for over 99% of total sales.
These two models are also known as "ride-hailing wonders." Statistics show that among the 850,000 newly added ride-hailing vehicles in 2023, 220,000 were GAC Aions, ranking first and even surpassing BYD.
