Although the iPhone 16 series still has many shortcomings this year, such as deficiencies in traditional charging and unclear signal improvements, it is highly unlikely that AI will be available within the year, and the standard version's screen likely still lacks a 120Hz refresh rate. Nevertheless, any new information still attracts significant attention from netizens. Recently, molds of the four iPhone 16 models were leaked online. The leaker claimed that these molds are primarily provided to accessory manufacturers for testing purposes, presumably for protective cases. The manufacturers need to precisely punch holes in the cases based on the molds to achieve a perfect fit.
If the unreleased devices have already reached the accessory testing stage, it means that the final designs will match the molds. However, opinions are divided on the standard version. Some argue that Apple's design inspiration has dried up, causing the iPhone 16 standard version to return to its origins. In reality, this design is necessary to support spatial video recording.
While the color choices may not be universally appealing, there's no need to worry. As the least technically demanding "innovation," Apple always finds endless "inspiration" for new iPhone colors each year. The iPhone 16 series is bound to introduce new hues, and the Pro version's mold has also been leaked. It appears largely similar to the previous generation, with the expected Dynamic Island design, though the front panel is not visible. Surprises are unlikely, as Apple typically avoids excessive innovation within the same generation, especially with AI and spatial video recording already introduced this year.
Based on current leaks, the iPhone 16 series doesn't inspire strong purchasing desires. Firstly, native AI is unavailable. Secondly, spatial video recording becomes redundant without the Vision Pro, which is prohibitively expensive for most users. Assembling a complete setup is too costly, making improvements to the mentioned shortcomings more anticipated than new features.
I believe the iPhone 16 series will mark a turning point for Apple's sales in the Chinese market. If it fails to ignite user interest, market share will continue to decline, potentially accelerating price drops. This year's Double 11 may witness the fastest price reduction ever for new iPhone models. While domestic phones lag behind iPhone in revenue, they are rapidly gaining ground, evident from third-party sales rankings and market share data.
With most top domestic flagships now supporting satellite communication, is there hope for this feature in the Chinese version of the iPhone 16 series? I find this unlikely. What, then, are the selling points of the iPhone 16 series? Unless Apple holds a "trump card" for the launch event, based on current leaks, there appear to be no standout features beyond routine upgrades. Frankly, sales prospects for the iPhone 16 series are concerning.
