The field of extended-range electric vehicles is growing rapidly.

On November 6, at Xiaopeng's AI Technology Day, Xiaopeng Motors officially unveiled its Xiaopeng Kunpeng Super Electric System. Among them, 'Kun' represents the super-range system, adopting the next-generation range extension technology, while 'Peng' represents Xiaopeng Motors' pure electric system.

This also signifies that Xiaopeng Motors has officially entered the race for extended-range electric vehicles.

It is reported that the Xiaopeng Kunpeng Super Electric System can extend the vehicle's pure electric range to 430 kilometers and its combined range exceeds 1,400 kilometers.

Regarding Xiaopeng Motors' first extended-range vehicle, there are reports that it will be a large SUV developed based on the G9 prototype, primarily targeting the price range above 200,000 yuan, with mass production expected in the second half of 2025.

Regarding the reason for entering the extended-range race, He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of Xiaopeng Motors, explained publicly: "If a company wants to enter the global market, it needs a new energy replenishment method, which includes extended-range hybrids. Additionally, to achieve a driving range of over 1,000 kilometers for a vehicle, a power form other than pure electric is required."

At the same time, 'Xiaopeng needs to be prepared to enter different countries and regions (markets) and provide a more convenient and universal energy replenishment solution,' said He Xiaopeng.

It is worth mentioning that according to the 'Pre-approval Information Disclosure for Environmental Impact Assessment of the Second Phase Project of Xiaopeng Motors' Guangzhou Intelligent Connected Vehicle Smart Manufacturing Base' published on the Huangpu District Government website of Guangzhou, the product plan in the document lists a plug-in hybrid model with the code of model B, with an annual production capacity planned at 100,000 units. Extended-range electric vehicles fall under the category of plug-in hybrid models.
