Recently, AutoHome released the complaint list of luxury car models in the first half of 2024. From the list, domestic luxury cars occupy four seats, while German cars occupy six seats. Among the domestic models, two models are from BYD's luxury new energy brand – Tengshi. In the first half of the year, the Tengshi N7 ranked first on the list due to discrepancies between actual vehicle configurations and official announcements, as well as price reductions; the Tengshi D9 ranked fourth, with complaints about the non-functioning car fridge and price reductions. The other two models, the Wenjie M7 and the Lixiang L7, saw rapid growth rates, surging by 10410.17% and 1614.92%, respectively, in the first half of the year.
1 Tengshi N7 Complaint Index: 632.55
Typical Issues: Discrepancies between actual vehicle configurations and official announcements, price reductions
Automotive Quality Complaint Review: From January to June, the complaint index of the Tengshi N7 reached 632.55, with typical complaints being false advertising and price reductions. It is understood that the Tengshi brand promoted the N7 as equipped with the Cloud Suspension-A system during the launch event, and the N7 showcased at the Tengshi booth at the Shanghai Auto Show in April last year also featured the dual-chamber air springs and smart wing seats required for the Cloud Suspension-A system. However, after owners took delivery of their cars, they discovered that the 2023 model of the Tengshi N7 had been replaced with single-chamber air springs and ordinary seats, which failed to meet the initial promotional effects of the Cloud Suspension-A system. Additionally, some owners expressed dissatisfaction with the price reduction of the Tengshi N7, leading to a small number of complaints.
2 Wenjie M7 Complaint Index: 620.1
Typical Issues: Introduction of new models with enhanced configurations within a short period, abnormal noises from the trunk
Automotive Quality Complaint Review: The popular Wenjie M7 received a complaint index of 620.1 in the first half of the year, surging by 10410.17% year-on-year, ranking second. Some owners reported to AutoHome that the manufacturer introduced upgraded models shortly after they purchased the Wenjie M7, believing that this behavior of "stabbing old owners in the back" infringed upon their right to know and caused economic losses. Additionally, owners reported that the Wenjie M7 produced "thumping" noises from the trunk during low-speed driving, significantly affecting ride comfort.
3 BMW X3 Complaint Index: 362.5
Typical Issues: In-vehicle system functions not matching manufacturer's promotions
Automotive Quality Complaint Review: In the first half of 2024, the complaint index of the BMW X3 was 362.5. Although it declined by 69.04% year-on-year, the issue of in-vehicle system functions not matching manufacturer's promotions remained unresolved. Many owners stated that the manufacturer promoted a complete ID7 in-vehicle system before purchase, but in reality, it was a cut-down version that could not use remote upgrades, remote control, intelligent voice control, and other functions as described in the owner's manual and BMW promotions. Despite BMW dealers compensating owners with 6,500 yuan in vouchers, it failed to appease their anger. Owners demanded that the official replace the system with the complete iDrive7 system.
4 Tengshi D9 Complaint Index: 314.65
Typical Issues: Non-functioning car fridge, price reductions
Automotive Quality Complaint Review: As a popular model of the Tengshi brand, the complaint index of the Tengshi D9 reached 314.65 in the first half of the year, up 231.56% year-on-year. According to information, complaints about the Tengshi D9 mainly focused on the non-functioning car fridge and price reductions. Owners reported that the fridge's temperature not only failed to reach the officially claimed 5°C but also produced loud noises when turned on, blowing hot air into the car. Additionally, the price reductions and enhanced configurations of the 2024 model of the Tengshi D9 caused dissatisfaction among owners.
5 smart #1 Complaint Index: 307.35
Typical Issues: Price reductions
Automotive Quality Complaint Review: In the first half of 2024, the complaint index of the smart #1 reached 307.35, up 500.29% year-on-year. From the complaint feedback, the issue of price reductions directly drove up the complaints about the smart #1, with complaints mainly concentrated on the 2022-2024 models. Old owners complained to AutoHome that they paid for their new cars on March 30, 2024, and took delivery on April 6 without any preferential benefits. However, the new smart #1 models not only received significant price reductions but also additional benefits such as sparkling logos, heated steering wheels, ventilated seats, etc. Currently, owners demand that the manufacturer install the same preferential configurations for them.
6 Audi A4L Complaint Index: 291.9
Typical Issues: Sunroof leaks, abnormal noises from the transmission
Automotive Quality Complaint Review: The complaint index of the Audi A4L in the first half of the year was 291.9, down 36.17% year-on-year. From the complaint feedback, the recurring issues of sunroof leaks and abnormal noises from the transmission became major points of criticism, with the 2019 and 2020 models being the most typical.
7 Audi A6L Complaint Index: 285.2
Typical Issues: Fuel tank sensor failures, black screens on the dashboard
Automotive Quality Complaint Review: From January to June, the complaint index of the Audi A6L was 285.2, up 18.78% year-on-year, ranking seventh. Fuel tank sensor failures and black screens on the dashboard were the main complaints about the Audi A6L. Owners reported that their Audi A6Ls suddenly displayed fuel tank malfunctions on the computer and showed the lowest fuel level on the dashboard when driving 50,000 kilometers, affecting driving safety. Other owners complained that the dashboard suddenly went black during driving, followed by the illumination of fault lights. Although the dashboard lit up again after parking and locking the doors for 15 minutes and restarting, more fault lights appeared. Owners believed it was a quality issue and demanded a free replacement of the dashboard.
8 BMW 5 Series Complaint Index: 233.15
Typical Issues: Reduced in-vehicle system functions, abnormal noises from the drive shaft
Automotive Quality Complaint Review: In the first half of the year, the complaint index of the BMW 5 Series was 233.15, down 46.27% year-on-year. From the complaints, the focal issues remained the mismatch between in-vehicle system functions and manufacturer's promotions, as well as abnormal noises from the drive shaft. Many owners reported that the iDrive7.0 in-vehicle system functions of the BMW 5 Series did not match the promotions. It is worth mentioning that such issues were present in multiple BMW models. Additionally, abnormal noises from the drive shaft were frequently complained about by owners, particularly evident when switching between R and D gears. Notably, the issue of abnormal noises from the drive shaft was exposed by the 3.15 Evening News this year, followed by a BMW official statement stating that technical inspections had confirmed that the phenomenon would not affect driving safety and could be resolved through repairs, with BMW bearing all related repair costs and compensating owners with 2,000 yuan in vouchers.
9 BMW 3 Series Complaint Index: 228.6
Typical Issues: Abnormal wear of brake pads
Automotive Quality Complaint Review: Recently, the complaint index of the BMW 3 Series reached 228.6, down 12.31% year-on-year. The most common reason for complaints was abnormal wear of brake pads, particularly in the 2020 and 2021 models. Many owners stated that their BMW 3 Series vehicles mostly displayed brake pad maintenance alerts after driving 15,000 kilometers, with the rear brake pads exhibiting severe abnormal wear. Although BMW officially issued a technical notice offering free brake pad replacements for eligible vehicles, owners encountered obstacles during repairs at 4S stores, requiring them to pay for replacements themselves, damaging their interests.
10 Lixiang L7 Complaint Index: 212.65
Typical Issues: Price reductions
Automotive Quality Complaint Review: The luxury mid-to-large SUV Lixiang L7 received a complaint index of 212.65 in the first half of the year, up 1614.92% year-on-year. Price reductions were the reason for widespread complaints from Lixiang L7 owners. On April 22, the official announced a 20,000 yuan price reduction for the Lixiang L7, with a new starting price of 301,800 yuan. News of the price reduction immediately caused dissatisfaction among existing owners. In response, Lixiang Auto formulated a compensation plan: for owners who had purchased and taken delivery of the 2024 model of the Lixiang L7, they would be compensated in cash for the price difference. However, the compensation plan had limited coverage, and for old owners who purchased Lixiang vehicles before 2024, Lixiang Auto did not specify a specific compensation plan. As a result, pre-2024 Lixiang owners pointed out that Lixiang Auto seriously discriminates against its customers.
