It is believed that the OPPO Find X7 series left a deep impression on many photography enthusiasts last year. The Ultra version stood out with its dual periscope telephoto lens configuration, and with continuous OTA updates optimizing the user experience, the OPPO Find X7 Ultra can be considered one of the most cost-effective flagship phones.
This year, the OPPO Find X8 series focuses on imaging and AI functions. The Pro version still comes equipped with dual periscope telephoto lenses, and ColorOS 15 boasts system-level AI capabilities. So, how is the OPPO Find X8 Pro experience?
Design
First, let's briefly discuss the design. OPPO emphasized the hand feel of the Find X8 Pro during its promotional phase. If good hand feel is desired, the phone body naturally needs to be light and thin. Compared to other Pro models from competitors, you'll find that even with two periscope telephoto lenses, the OPPO Find X8 Pro has the best overall performance in terms of body thickness and weight.
The design of the camera module is also quite interesting this time. Not only are the positions of the four lenses very symmetrical, but even the text for some lens parameters is evenly distributed between the lenses. Possibly for the sake of symmetry, the flash has been removed from the circular camera module area and placed in the top-left corner.
On the aluminum alloy frame, the left side features an industry-exclusive three-stage silent sliding button, while the right side has a newly added quick capture button. We'll delve into the experience of this button later in the camera section.
The front of the phone is equipped with a 6.78-inch four-sided curved screen with a maximum resolution of 2780×1264. The local peak brightness can reach 4500 nits, and it supports ambient color adaptation. It also supports bright eye low flicker and classic low flicker for eye protection.
Camera Experience
In terms of camera configuration, the OPPO Find X8 Pro adopts new hardware, making it quite competitive among this year's Pro flagship models.
The main camera is a 50MP LYT800 with a 1/1.4-inch sensor and an equivalent 23mm focal length, supporting OIS optical image stabilization.
The 3x periscope telephoto lens is a LYT600 with a 1/1.95-inch sensor and an equivalent 73mm focal length, also supporting OIS.
The 6x periscope telephoto lens is an IMX858 with a 1/2.51-inch sensor and an equivalent 135mm focal length, also supporting OIS.
The ultra-wide-angle lens is a 50MP JN5 with a 1/2.76-inch sensor and an equivalent 15mm focal length.
To pursue a faster capture experience, the OPPO Find X8 Pro is equipped with a quick capture button on the body. This button is not obtrusive, and when you want to quickly launch the camera, you only need to press it twice to access the camera interface and once more to take a photo.
Long pressing the button enables burst mode, and it can also be slid to zoom. Personally, I've used the iPhone 16 Pro Max for some time, and objectively speaking, the OPPO Find X8 Pro's button experience is much better than that of the iPhone. Why? Because it's not greedy; from the beginning, it wasn't designed to have numerous functions but rather to excel at quick capture, making it an instinctive choice for me.
When capturing everyday shots of small animals like cats and dogs, this quick capture button is incredibly useful. Long pressing it directly initiates capture, easily capturing fleeting moments. We used the Find X8 Pro to capture fighter jets at the Zhuhai Airshow, and even on overcast days, it could still capture excellent images. This quick capture button definitely deserves praise!
Besides quick capture, the OPPO Find X8 Pro's performance across different focal lengths is also impressive in actual shooting experiences. Especially the two periscope telephoto lenses can still capture clear images even in dim lighting conditions, and both have OIS, so even when night mode is triggered, there's little worry about blurry shots.
From ultra-wide-angle to telephoto, the OPPO Find X8 Pro offers an excellent shooting experience. Especially at the telephoto end, with the addition of AI Ultra Long Range, capturing highly magnified photos retains more details and looks much better.
Of course, no one is perfect, and no phone is flawless. During my shooting time, I also found some aspects of the OPPO Find X8 Pro's experience that were not so great. Firstly, the minimum focusing distance of the 3x telephoto lens is quite far, around 30cm, which sometimes causes the macro mode to activate automatically when switching to 3x for close-up shots, using the main camera to crop the image.
Another issue is that although the details in ultra-telephoto shots, like at 300mm, are good, the imaging colors can differ significantly from those at 6x, and the color consistency may need further adjustment.
In terms of video recording, the OPPO Find X8 Pro supports full-focal-length 4K/60fps Dolby Vision HDR video recording, which is an excellent feature for those who enjoy shooting videos with their phones. For audio recording, the phone is also equipped with high-precision four-microphone enhancement.
However, I found that when switching focal lengths during video recording, the OPPO Find X8 Pro's switching speed is too fast, almost catching one off guard. OPPO might consider adopting some of Apple's adjustment animations, which could elevate the Find X8 Pro's experience even further.
Additionally, the OPPO Find X8 Pro supports sharing GIFs on platforms like Weibo and Xiaohongshu, comes with a Hasselblad portrait mode, and more. If you're considering purchasing the OPPO Find X8 Pro for its imaging performance, it will definitely bring you many surprises.
Gaming Performance Experience
The OPPO Find X8 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400, which uses a second-generation 3nm process. Compared to the previous generation, CPU performance is improved by 35%, GPU performance by 41%, and power consumption is significantly reduced. In AnTuTu benchmarks, it scored 2,794,125 points, 6,778 points in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme, and 2,816 (single-core) and 8,807 (multi-core) points in Geekbench CPU benchmarks.
As always, we tested "Honor of Kings" with the highest graphics quality, ultra-high resolution, and 120fps mode. The average frame rate during a game was 119.6fps, very smooth with no noticeable lag. In terms of power consumption, the average power consumption was 3.078W, also performing very well.
Although it primarily focuses on imaging performance, the Find X8 Pro still delivers a solid gaming experience. The significantly upgraded Dimensity 9400 ensures smoother game graphics.
Of course, you don't have to worry about battery drain from gaming. Based on my experience, the OPPO Find X8 Pro's built-in 5810mAh battery is very capable. Combined with the Dimensity 9400's excellent power efficiency, I had no battery anxiety at all during normal use throughout the day. For charging, the Find X8 Pro supports 80W wired flash charging and 50W wireless flash charging, catering to both wired and wireless charging needs.
System Experience: AI and Compatibility with Apple
In terms of the system, the OPPO Find X8 Pro equipped with the new ColorOS 15 left me with two deep impressions. Firstly, the AI capabilities have been further expanded in the system. In addition to the upgrade of Breeno Assistant, it can be summoned anytime and anywhere to achieve one-click screen asking. The feature I use the most and like the most is the new functions in the AI album.
These new features, such as AI Eraser, can now automatically recognize bystanders, eliminating the need for manual selection and editing. Additionally, there's AI Reflection Removal, which allows for clear photos even when taken through windows with reflections. There are also AI Ultra HD and AI Motion Blur Reduction features. When used properly, these functions can often rescue a failed photo.
With powerful camera hardware and abundant post-processing AI functions, the OPPO Find X8 Pro, as an imaging flagship, goes to great lengths to ensure taking a good photo, allowing us to shoot and create without hesitation.
The second feature of ColorOS 15 that I really like is its compatibility with Apple products. That's right, compatibility with Apple. Not only can you view Apple's three-piece file suite freely, but you can also transfer photos and videos seamlessly, including Live Photos. Whether taken with an iPhone or an OPPO, Live Photos can be viewed normally.
With increasing support for Live Photos on social platforms, they are likely to become mainstream in the future. Currently, only OPPO among Android devices allows the transfer of Live Photos with iPhones, which is a significant attraction for users with both Android and iPhone devices. Of course, I am also looking forward to a quicker update of ColorOS 15 to ultimately achieve a seamless tap-to-transfer experience.
OPPO Find X8 Pro, Pro in Every Aspect
The OPPO Find X8 Pro is a phone that excels in every aspect. If you prioritize photography, its dual periscope lenses demonstrate sufficient commitment. If you value performance, the significantly improved MediaTek Dimensity 9400 provides excellent gaming performance with good heat dissipation. In terms of the system, ColorOS 15 can be considered one of the Android systems that currently utilizes AI most thoroughly, always addressing user pain points. The AI functions are very practical, not to mention that ColorOS 15's seamless transfer experience with iPhones is unparalleled.
With the significant performance upgrade of this year's flagship processors attracting many people to consider upgrading their phones, the OPPO Find X8 Pro's outstanding performance in imaging and system aspects is definitely worth considering.
